One of the oldest rugby clubs in South Wales, Mumbles RFC has been at the heart of sporting life in Mumbles, Swansea since 1887. The Blue Army has a heritage that stretches across more than 135 years, producing players who have gone on to represent some of the game's great clubs and the Welsh national team. The club's most celebrated alumnus is Geoff Wheel, who captained Swansea RFC and was a cornerstone of the dominant Welsh pack throughout the 1970s — a golden era of Welsh rugby that Mumbles RFC can rightly claim a share of.


Competing in the WRU Division Two West as an official feeder club for the Ospreys, Mumbles RFC also has a proud tradition of hosting touring sides from across the world, with the first team having toured Ireland, Europe, the United States and Canada. Based at Underhill Park in the village of Mumbles, the club runs teams at every age group — from the youngest minis right through to two senior men's XIs, a youth side, and a senior ladies' team. A friendly, licensed café and bar on site makes the ground a genuine community hub for players, families and supporters across Swansea Bay. Mumbles Rangers FC | Football Club in Mumbles, Swansea

Founded in 1950 by Billy Johns BEM, Mumbles Rangers FC is one of the longest-established football clubs on the Gower Peninsula. After decades in the Swansea Senior Football League, the club stepped up to the West Wales Premier League in 2020–21 and earned promotion to the tier three Ardal SW League in 2022 — a remarkable achievement for a community club. 


Most recently finishing runners-up in the West Wales Premier League in 2025–26, Rangers continue to punch above their weight. Playing at Underhill Park alongside Mumbles RFC, the club has deep community roots and a warm welcome for new players and supporters alike.

Langland Bay Golf Club | Golf on the Gower Peninsula, Swansea

Known as "the Pebble Beach of Wales," Langland Bay Golf Club sits on the clifftops between Langland and Caswell Bays in Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Designed by five-time Open Champion James Braid and opened in 1904, this 18-hole, par 70 course (6,026 yards) is one of the finest golf experiences in South Wales. 


Small greens, well-placed bunkers and the infamous "Death or Glory" 16th demand real course management, while panoramic views across Swansea Bay towards Bristol and the Brecon Beacons reward every round. The clubhouse offers a warm welcome and an outlook to match. Visitors are welcome every day.

Mumbles Cricket Club | Cricket in Mumbles, Swansea Bay

Cricket has been played in Mumbles for well over a century, with the club formally established in 1925. The pivotal moment came in 1975 when the Marespool Ground was purchased from the Duke of Beaufort — a privately owned five-acre home that has grown into one of the finest club cricket facilities in South Wales, with a licensed bar, large function room and TNT Sports screens. 


On the pitch, Mumbles CC plays in the top tier South Wales Premier Cricket League, having clinched an undefeated championship in 2010. The junior section is a particular point of pride, producing a long list of Wales youth internationals. The club fields three senior XIs, eight junior sides, plus Minis and All Stars, and the clubhouse and Marespool Ground are open to visitors and private hire.

Mumbles Yacht Club (MYC) | Family Sailing Club in Swansea Bay

Founded in 1938, Mumbles Yacht Club is one of South Wales' most active sailing clubs, offering year-round racing and sailing on Swansea Bay at the gateway to the Gower Peninsula. Cruiser, dinghy, catamaran and youth sailing takes place every weekend through spring, summer and autumn, with evening racing in summer and a popular winter series from October to March. As an RYA-recognised training centre, MYC delivers the full Youth Sailing Scheme, National Sailing Scheme for adults, and windsurfing courses at all levels — with several junior sailors progressing to represent UK and Welsh squads. MYC has hosted World and National Championships and offers both full sailing and social membership.

Bristol Channel Yacht Club (BCYC) | Sailing Club in Mumbles, Swansea

The BCYC holds a remarkable distinction — it was the first yacht club established in the Bristol Channel. Founded in Swansea on 24 February 1875, the club held its first regatta just months later and has been racing on Swansea Bay ever since. Its stunning Grade II listed clubhouse at Southend, Mumbles — built in 1904 to a design by Glendinning Moxham — is a local landmark and one of the most architecturally distinctive buildings on the Mumbles seafront. 


Over 150 years, the BCYC has collaborated with neighbouring Mumbles Yacht Club to host World, European and National regattas, cementing Mumbles as a premier sailing destination on the Welsh coast.

Established in 1946, Mumbles Bowls Club is one of the longest-serving sports clubs in the Mumbles and Swansea area. Based at Oystermouth Park on Mumbles Road — with views across Swansea Bay — the club competes in the City and County of Swansea Bowling Association and welcomes players of all ages and abilities for both social and competitive play. The club regularly hosts open days where newcomers can try bowls for free. All you need is a pair of flat-soled shoes and the friendly membership will take care of the rest.

Newton Athletic FC | Grassroots Football near Mumbles, Swansea

Newton Athletic FC serves the Newton area of Mumbles with grassroots football for players aged four to senior level. Holding FAW Silver Accreditation, the club competes across Swansea Junior, Youth and Senior Leagues and maintains high standards in coaching, safeguarding and administration. All coaches hold enhanced DBS checks and FAW Level 1 qualifications as a minimum.

Mumbles Pétanque Club | Pétanque & Boules in Mumbles, Swansea

Mumbles Pétanque Club is one of the village's newest sporting communities — and one of its fastest-growing. It began in 2024 when a group of friends started gathering on Saturday mornings for casual games of pétanque (boules) on the Mumbles seafront. Word spread quickly, and by early 2025 the club had over 40 members with up to 16 players each session. 


Formally constituted in March 2025 and now affiliated with the Welsh Pétanque Association, the club plays at Southend Gardens with Swansea Bay as its backdrop. No experience is needed — complete beginners are always welcome. Contact hello@mumblespetanqueclub.co.uk to get involved.

Mumbles Rowing Club offers one of the most distinctive sporting experiences on the Gower Peninsula — sea rowing in the open waters of Swansea Bay. Part of the Celtic longboat rowing tradition in Wales, the club rows from its boathouse on the Mumbles seafront and competes in coastal events across West Wales. The club's handcrafted longboat was built specifically for Mumbles Rowing Club in 2015.
