A network of paths winds through the reserve, rewarding visitors with panoramic views across Swansea Bay and out towards the Gower Peninsula.
The hill also played a significant role during the Second World War. Two six-inch coastal defence guns were installed on the eastern end of Mumbles Hill as part of the 299th Coastal Battery, tasked with protecting the port of Swansea from enemy vessels. Women of the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) served in the 623rd Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery at the Thistleboon end of the hill. In 1943–44, additional emplacements were built on the hill ahead of the D-Day landings, as Swansea was an embarkation point for the Normandy invasion. Visit Swansea Bay Today, some of these wartime remains can still be explored among the reserve's peaceful paths, serving as a quiet reminder of the hill's remarkable history.
